Dirty Northern Volunteer Rewarded
Long time Adventure Sport NQ, Rogaining and Dirty Northern Trail Running Event Coordinator Shane White has been rewarded for his contribution to the community with a Barron River 2011 Queensland Day Volunteers Award. In presenting the award, Member for Parliament Steve Wettenhall said that “Shane’s commitment to the promotion of active healthy lifestyles and his demonstration of the enjoyment and fun of running have inspired others to get active and helped highlight some of the most scenic trails in FNQ to both visitors and locals alike”.
The Queensland Day Volunteers award was primarily recognition of Shane’s efforts in establishing and coordinating the Dirty Northern Trail Running Series and organising and administering the Speewah Legend Footrace, Gold Rush Trail Marathon and Spiny Cray Ultra. With the series in only its second year, over 300 local, interstate and international participants have been involved in events with distances from 4km to 57km. The award also acknowledged that thanks largely to Shane’s commitment to the sport of Trail Running, the series has already “developed a reputation for being well organised, affordable, challenging and fun”.

Congratulations Shane. Very deserved. You, Chris, Mike, Adam and many others do so much towards creating and running the events we all get to enjoy competing in. Thank you.
