Sunday, May 27th, 2012 marks the date from which half the number of kilometres to run exceeds the days remaining to prepare for the 2012 Spiny Cray Ultra. The course is as speccy (and as challenging) as ever, the creeks are perhaps colder than ever and with entries open there is no better way to get motivated than to sign up!
In its inaugural running, the 2010 event attracted 76 runners with 29 signing up for the ultra event and 25 finishing. While it would be great to see new runners, increased numbers and faster times in 2012, what we’d really love to see is a 100% completion rate for all events.
To help achieve this, there have been a couple of slight changes for 2012. The event will start earlier (to avoid hotter conditions later in the day), registration and briefing can be done the afternoon before for those staying in the immediate area (providing a few extra precious zzzzz’s), heaps of course info is on the website and will be further added to, the kilometre markings will be at every kilometre, we’re available to offer specific advice on preparation (try chris@adventuresportnq.info ) and we might even be able to throw in finishers prizes if the joy of finishing isn’t incentive enough!
Fancy a Free (Spiny Cray) Entry?
That’s right folks – free entry to the running experience of the year! We love volunteers and figure that arranging a free entry for a friend or family member (or to next year’s event for the volunteer themselves) is a small price to pay for having good folk wake up early, stand around in any weather and give up a good chunk of a weekend. Of course volunteers also receive a warm inner glow (even at the 1220m asl turnaround on a cool cloudy day), our immense gratitude and the right to cheer or freely heckle runners as they see fit.
If you’re keen, or you’re lucky enough to have a friend or family member coming along willing to give up some time so that you score free entry, let Shane know (shane@adventuresportnq.info) before the June 14th. First aid holders are preferred for course marshalls.
