Stories of square dancing, marriage proposals, shameless trail nudity and Vegemite covered buttocks
Stories of square dancing, marriage proposals, shameless trail nudity and Vegemite covered buttocks
It was with a dash of trepidation and a good dose of excitement that Kristin and I entered the inaugural Bustard Express. Not only was this the first edition of this novel, off-road day/night trail race, but it was also the first time that we had competed on the same team in an event. The [...]
An additional 228 great photos are available for viewing here or go to facebook.com/adventuresportnq and view photos. Saturday, March 24th, will go down in Trail Running history as a memorable day. The Pony Express concept worked a treat with over 70 competitors and 30 odd spectators and supporters enjoying 4 hours of some of the best [...]
Fearless trail runners awoke predawn on the wettest morning of the year, got out of bed, waded to the nearest window to stare into the dark yet somehow still visibly wet scene before them, smiled and said “stuff it, monsoonal downpours don’t scare me – I’m going to run Speewah” (Or at least splash / paddle / wade / slip or slide it!). Legends – Speewah Legends – the lot of ‘em!
Fancy a Taste of Trail Running? If you developed a taste for single trail in the Dirty 30 or Sweaty 60, or if your feet are itchy ‘cause you missed it, upcoming weekends should well and truly satisfy your appetite. March 18th will be the 3rd, and quite possibly the quickest, running of the Speewah Legend [...]
Up for a bout of rainforest running? Keen for cool clear creeks, smoothly flowing or challenging single track and social but competitive trail running? Entries have opened for events in the 2012 Dirty Northern Trail Running Series.
The track has beautiful scenery, is mostly in shade and has plenty of challenging hills to test your hamstrings and everything else attached to them. The Spiny Cray Ultra is a race that will keep me coming back and hopefully encourage some others to take on those extra kilometres.
Winners report 2011 Spiny Cray Ultra, by Chris White I’m not sure what it is about the Spiny Cray Ultra, but despite it being the longest run event I’ve had a go at it is without doubt the most enjoyable. Maybe the altitude affected air pressure stimulates early endorphin release, or the biodiversity of highland [...]

Yes no cups, none, nought, nada, zilch, zero, zip, who would have thought? It makes sense really.
Saturday, July 30th, 2011 marks the date from which the number of kilometres to run exceeds the days remaining to prepare for the 2011 Spiny Cray Ultra. The course is as speccy (and as challenging) as ever, the creeks are perhaps colder than ever and with entries open there is no better way to get motivated than to sign up!
While 2 billion people watched a commoner become a British Princess on Friday night, Sue Crowe prepared to become the Queen – The Dirty Northern Trail Running Queen.
….. a 42.2km course with over 800m of vertical ascent and descent, 32 creek crossings, multiple crossings of the East Mulgrave River, extended sections of loose unstable rocks and kilometres of moss covered dirt trail made precariously slippery by a light shower.
Like any good Gold Rush, the feverish migration has begun. Californians, Kiwis and from the deep southern fields of Townsville the diggers are coming. Yes, the Gold Rush 2011 is here. Competitor list is currently as follows:
Sue Crowe led home a quality field of female runners in the 2011 Speewah Legend. All three female placegetters went under the previous record, but it will be Sue’s time of 1:48:42 that will be the time to chase in future Speewah Legends. Here’s her version of events.
