If you haven’t already heard, the 5th edition of the XPD is in Cairns, which started last Wednesday – 47 teams of 4 competitors from around the globe trek, mountain bike, and kayak for five to ten days in this world renowned expedition. These adventurers race day and night over a 700km course pushing themselves to the ultimate limits of human endurance.
Now more to the point, the lead teams have already finished. Although there are another 40+ teams still battling this expedition race who would love a little support. So if you have been around the adventure racing scene for a little while be sure to check out the live tracking on the XPD Live Site and catch up and/or support one of these awesome teams. There are a heap of options, Tinaroo, Dave’s Ck, Closey River, Copperload or them coming back in from Crystal Cascades to Rydges on the Esplanade.
Listed below are some of the local competitors in the XPD, if I have missed any please add them in the comments.
Starfactor – Terry McClelland, Neil Parker, Robert Miller & Tony Marnane
Waiting for Inspiration – Jana Kaeppler, Brett Wilson, Tony Webster & Matt Webster
C.A.R – Jason Hedges now in team ‘Born to be Wild’. Well done to Rhonda Coyne, Craig House & Paula House who also competed in the XPD.
Rare Thinking – Derek Desaunois
On another note; I (Muzza!) have been shooting the XPD for the last six days and this event definitely sends shivers down my spine in the amount of endurance, mental capacity and the requirement to keep fueling your body 24/7.
