As a masters runner I found the race to be a real challenge though not beyond the capabilities of most club runners. The location was fantastic and the course layout was a perfect example of running in the mountainous rainforest conditions in Far North Qld. The overcast weather and numerous creek crossings helped to cool competitors on the day. The maps provided before hand, pre race instruction and course markings made following the course easy and ensured I for one didn’t get lost along the way. Although I didn’t have much time to take in the sights I was always aware of the magnificent scenery around me. The race was not without incident for me and I sport a few scratches from the wait awhile vines and bruises from a couple of falls due to a lack of concentration later in the race.
Lastly congratulations to all those who competed and to the organizers and volunteers on the day. The introduction of this type of event brings a different dimension to the running calendar this year and one that I am certainly enjoying . Looking forward to the next trail run.
