Inaugural Barron River Challenge

 

The Tinaroo Canoe Club are proud to host the first Barron River Challenge on May 7th & 8th. The Challenge is to paddle a watercraft from Mareeba to Kuranda. This 50km river race is open to juniors as well as age categories with discount prices to Australian Canoe members.

  1. With 7 weeks to go be careful when training on the course as the water levels are still high. Check out BOM river levels. > 1.85m at myola puts the last island rapids- both the right shute and River left drop at grade 3 level in an open canadian. With an expected 8 hr cutoff at Russet Park this will not be a race for novices.Yes- situpons will be catered for.

  2. A number of Mareeba high yr 11 students are training over the school holidays to enter the BRC12. Training sessions will be held at the Brewery hole above the low bridge.

    How did it go? Where are the results? Any footage? Any broken boats?

    Did any of the older try hards (now ski paddlers) have crack at it or did they leave all the glory to the Southerners?

    Careful I hear a WA contingent (real adventure paddlers)are sniffing out the event for next year.
