Bustard Express

Following the enormous success of Bustard Express and Bustardo Expresso Dos in 2012, let’s get Bustard again in 2013!

A ‘Pony Express’ style event is one where competitors (solo, pairs, trios, or quadrupos) complete as many laps of the course within the given time frame. Teams compete in a continuous relay style while solo participants… go solo! The Bustard Express is a four hour event with a choice of three loops – a 3.2km, 7.2km or the trail-happy 14.5k loop.
A handicap system will operate such that runners completing the 7.2 Km circuit will be credited with 1.25 and runners completing the 14.5km circuit will be credited with 1.4, the additional .25 & .4 to compensate for the topography on the longer circuits.
Being a day/night event, the late afternoon will be useful for course familiarisation while a couple of hours of darkness can be spent running around like a mad bustard.

Participants can choose to run any of the trail lengths at any time during the four hours, but will be disadvantaged if running the short loop.

There will be an aid station (marshall/drink/first aid) available separately for short and long courses, checking teams/participants off as they complete laps.

After four hours the individual and teams who have covered the most adjusted kilometres will win.  Only completed laps will be counted as kilometres finished and timed laps will count if lap numbers are equal.

Keen Mountain Bikers would be absolutely mad Bustards to miss out on the opportunity to run the Bustard Express on Saturday night, camp at the beautiful Davies Creek and then back up at the first MTB Cross Country event of the year on the same awesome track. Check the Mareeba Mountain Goats or Cairns MTB Club websites. Adventure Sport NQ sends a huge thanks to The Mareeba Mountain Goats MTB Club (MMG)  for allowing us to utilise the Little Transfield Trail at Davies Creek for this event.
