The Dirty Northern Trail Running Series are Cairns Road Runners and Triathlon club events.
Minimum Impact Trail Running
The Dirty Northern Trail Running Series aims to minimise the collective carbon and environmental footprint of each event. All Trail events are selected with scenery and running enjoyment considered and we like to think the events showcase some of the best runs through some of the most scenic locations in the Wet Tropics. Before, during and after each event runners, supporters and spectators are encouraged to follow standard ‘leave no trace’ environmental guidelines. This is an essential component of permit criteria and vital to the success of future permit applications. In addition to these guidelines, when determining transport to and from events, please consider contacting event coordinators to offer or request a lift where possible. The event coordinators will consider waste elimination and resource use a priority in all purchasing and event planning. We greatly respect your cooperation.
Series Calculations
Runners are awarded the number of points equal to their category placing (ie the open mens winner is awarded one point towards their series total, the second place getter is awarded two points etc). To be eligible for series prizes, runners must participate in at least two of the three events. The best two performances will be used to calculate total series points and the runners with the lowest totals are declared Dirty Northern Trail Champions in each category.
Where an event has multiple distance options, the longer event shall be the premier event. Competitors in shorter events can still gain points towards the series total, however the points they are awarded will be equal to their placing PLUS the number of competitors in their age category in the longer event. For example, in the Gold Rush if there are 10 master females in the 42 km event, the winner of the longer event would receive 1 point and the 21km winner would receive 11 points towards their series totals.
Age Categories
It is recommended that Junior Competitors (18 years and under) participate only in races 8k and less.
As per usual Open Competitors are those aged 19 – 40 years inclusive and masters competitors are 41 years and over.
Participant’s ages as of the date of the final event (30th May, 2010) will be used to determine their category.

Amazing! Outstanding! The kind of event I’ve been waiting for. Will be making every effort to get up there from Brissie. I’ve heard how tough this course is though; I’ll be well prepared but just taking it easy and enjoying the sights…
