Using a large scale map negotiate a precise mapped course in the fastest time possible. Individuals and teams may compete. No scores just fast times.
Categories will offer courses taking from 25 minutes to 55 minutes.
Cold fluids will be available at event conclusion.
What to bring
- Sturdy walking or running shoes
- Compass (we have loan compasses)
- Map Case or plastic sleeve
- Hat, sunnies & sunscreen
- Water bottle or hydration pack
- Pen or pencil
1 or 2 hr Paddlegaine
Paddlegaine: Participants (in teams of 2/3) are given a topographic map and a clue sheet. Numbered checkpoints are marked on the map and the clue sheet provides a description of the feature/object at which they will find a unique punch which they use to punch their scorecard. The scorecard is handed in at the conclusion of the event to determine scores and placings. Most checkpoints are on water, however several require teams to leave their craft to locate a checkpoint on land.
The aim is to accumulate as high a score as possible in the allotted time (or less). Points are deducted if you return late. Compass navigation is required but help is at hand. Experienced rogainers and paddlers will be available assist you in learning the basics of compass navigation.
What to bring
- Canoe / kayak
- paddles or blade
- PFD class 150 or 200
- Sturdy walking or running shoes
- Hat, sunnies & sunscreen
- Water bottle or hydration pack
- Pen or pencil
- Torch or headlamp – in case you’re late
- Compass if you have one. Again our experienced rogainers will be on hand with their own should it be required.
Dirty 30 Sweaty 60 Adventure Run
This is a nice little intro to tropical trail running with a fun and obstacle filled loop course beside Lake Tinaroo. Expect mud. Expect to get wet. Expect a slip and slide. Expect to get dirty, very dirty. Expect obstacles that provoke more laughter and fun than you previously thought possible during 30 dirty or 60 sweaty minutes of tropical running. There’ll be the Hay Bale Hills (but bigger), Mud Wallow Stinger Nets (but with a real sting!) and the sweet flowing Single Track (and now with lakeside views) you loved at the 2011 Smithfield Mud Run Event. But there’ll also be novel new obstacles (keep an eye on the website), better spectator access, great photo opportunities, a couple of wades (that’s water running – not blokes called Wade, although they’re welcome too), nice steady uphill, rip roaring downhill fun and a very memorable running experience jammed into a 1.5km loop you can tackle as many times as you like in your chosen 30 or 60 minutes.

Please have your bike and water craft removed from transition at earliest opportunity, once you have recovered from your efforts!
Notes
Consider you nutrition needs, dependant on the conditions of the day and length of course you are attempting, at a minimum plenty of water and some electrolyte drink on a regular basis during the event.
Arrive early and set out your gear at transition near your bike, mindful of your neighbours’ gear. Please bunch up as much as possible. Any excess gear/bags, leave in your car or move to side of transition area.
Participants should be able to comfortably complete the course in a pair of bike niks, jersey or single/sports top, and a pair of running shoes. Consider Sportslick, Amoline, 3B, Vasaline or similar if chaff and rubbing could be a source of discomfort.
When riding look 5-10m ahead for obstacles, but remain aware of the bigger picture and remember the quicker you go, the further to look ahead. Be aware of who is beside you or behind so that you can alter course quickly of required. Similar thinking to this can be applied to any of the off road running as well.
