Metrogaining is a sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. We often have parents with tots in strollers, Young-uns in backpacks, juniors walking with their parents, teenagers teaming together as well as senior citizens and gun athletes. Our oldest competitor is 86.

Metrogaines are conducted on foot or mountain bike in suburban areas or regional towns. Teams of 2 to 5 people are given a map with checkpoints marked on it and a cluesheet and have one hour [ some events are up to 3 hours duration] to walk/jog/run to as many checkpoints as possible. The catch is that the map has no street names or identifying words to guide teams. Teams use basic navigation skills to locate checkpoints using the clues provided. No compass skills are needed or used.

After one hour teams who have not returned to HQ are penalised for each minute late. Cold drinks and jubes are provided at event conclusion. Results are emailed during the week following the event

Struan’s social slog around Brinsmead was a resounding success with 72 people fronting for our first It’s Extreme Winter Metrogaine.
The Speedy Gonzales pair in team RA! – Adam Fletcher and Robert Wallace – raced around in 58 minutes and picked up 255 points followed closely by the Ginger Brandy’s, Bryan O’Mahony and Andrew Simpson on 225 points. First corporate team of Team TAS – Darren Osmond and Alec Phillips-Turner – also scored 225 points but were 30 seconds behind the Ginger Brandy’s.

Great kudos to Struan who set and organised the event under trying conditions.
Many thanks to all who assisted on the day to ensure a smooth and successful start to the Series.

Our first event for Winter 2010 will be in Brinsmead – see map below.
Hosted by Struan Lamont this promises to be a delightful event in a suburb loaded with tracks and paths.

Our youngest member – Shanti at 13 months – and our oldest team in their 70′s aquitted themselves well considering they hadn’t Metrogained before.
The Ging.R.Brandy’s again scored 225 points to pip TAS by 20 points with BREK a further 25 back. Congratulations to all who competed.

Well, the rain certainly rained on our parade at Holloways Beach – only 21 teams fronted following the heavy shower that blasted through the city and northern suburbs late Thursday.
However the brave 50 odd people who did attend certainly enjoyed a top [flat] course set by Louise Carver.
Several controls were well positioned off road on tracks and even the mangrove boardwalk and teams lights could be seen weaving around otherwise dark trails as teams enjoyed some fantastic Metrogaine territory.
Team Ra!, with Adam & Robert, took line honours.
Congratulations to Louise [with help from Julie] for a top event.
